The 51¸£ÀûÉç Libraries is teaming up with the to conduct 51¸£ÀûÉç’s inaugural Human Library Event on the afternoon of April 19, 2023, as part of 51¸£ÀûÉç’s Diversity and Inclusion week.

First developed in Denmark, events are designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge or address stereotypes, prejudices, stigma, or taboo topics through dialogue.

Based on library borrowing concepts, the event features ‘Human Books,’ 51¸£ÀûÉç students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members who volunteer to share personal experiences and stories to break down barriers based on race, religion, sexual orientation, class, gender identity, lifestyle choices, disability or other aspects of life. ‘Readers’ are event attendees, who, in checking out the ‘Books,’ gain better understanding through conversation, in a safe and educational environment.
