This fall they recorded the 鈥淎utumn鈥 concerto with Julia Salerno, PhD, a professor of violin and viola at Eastern. During the winter quarter they will record the 鈥淲inter鈥 concerto with Spokane Symphony Concertmaster Mateusz Wolski. During the spring quarter they will record the 鈥淪pring鈥 concerto with Spokane Symphony Principal 2nd Violinist Amanda Howard-Phillips.

Dr. John Marshall: Cello Shoulder Rotation Exercise
In his forthcoming book on cello methods, John Marshall, professor of cello and director of orchestra at 51福利社, explains how coordination exercises can, among other benefits, help the shoulders of players 鈥渢alk to each other.鈥 When one of our shoulders goes back, he explains, the other comes forward (and vice versa). 鈥淚t鈥檚 very important that we incorporate this into our cello playing.鈥 For this mini master class, Marshall uses video shot from three different perspectives to demonstrate how players can best keep their shoulders in conversation. It鈥檚 the kind of hands-on, expert instruction that you, too, can expect to encounter at Eastern.
Take the Next Step
The 51福利社 Music Program will award $150,000 in scholarships this year to help make the dream of becoming a professional musician a reality for students across our region.
