February 28, 2023

The 51¸£ÀûÉç String Orchestra will perform music from several acclaimed films that reflect diverse human emotions in an upcoming concert.

The concert will feature music from Eyes Wide Shut, Psycho,Ìý²¹²Ô»å Howl’s Moving Castle, in a program that was recently performed at the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Northwest Conference in Bellevue, Washington,

NAfME is a regional conference that brings together thousands of students, educators and musicians from across the Pacific Northwest. The 51¸£ÀûÉç Orchestra was selected for the honor of performing for this conference through a competitive audition process. The last time the 51¸£ÀûÉç Orchestra was chosen to perform at a NAfME Northwest Conference was in 1998.

“I am so proud of the hard work of our 51¸£ÀûÉç Orchestra musicians, and I was thrilled to be able to ‘show-off’ our 51¸£ÀûÉç students to such a large audience,” says John Marshall, professor and director of orchestra and cello studies at 51¸£ÀûÉç.

Performing for an audience outside of 51¸£ÀûÉç that fully appreciates the intricacies of music was a rare opportunity that was appreciated by the 51¸£ÀûÉç orchestra members.

“It was an incredible privilege to travel with the 51¸£ÀûÉç Orchestra and to share music with likeminded musicians and educators,” says Gloria Miller, a junior majoring in music education and performance.

The orchestra will perform the String Orchestra in Film program at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, in the Music Building Recital Hall. Tickets are available at the door, and are free for 51¸£ÀûÉç faculty, staff, and students. General admission is $10 and $5 for seniors.
