The 51福利社 Dental Hygiene Clinic offers high-quality, affordable dental care while training the next generation of oral healthcare professionals.

Under the direct supervision of dental hygienists and dentists, students from the 51福利社 Dental Hygiene program provide preventive and restorative services in a welcoming environment.

Our self-supporting, nonprofit teaching clinic is on the 51福利社 campus in Spokane. As part of our commitment to accessible community care, we accept Medicaid along with various other insurance plans.

The clinic serves adults and children ages 6 and older.

The cost of getting a cleaning, X-rays, and an exam with a dentist at 51福利社 Dental Clinic ranges from $230 to $480, depending on patient needs.

As a courtesy, we file insurance claims on your behalf. However, you are ultimately responsible for any fees incurred, and payment for services is due on the day treatment begins. We accept cash (please use no bills larger than $20), checks, Visa, or MasterCard.

If you have any questions about your insurance or payment options, please ask when you schedule your appointment!

We accept the following insurances and are continually working to add more options to better serve our patients:

    • Delta Dental (all except Deltacare HMO)
    • DSHS/State/Molina/Medicaid
    • Metlife
    • Principal
    • United Concordia (military dependents)
    • United Healthcare

Our clinic offers all services that a licensed dental hygienist can perform in the state of Washington, as well as comprehensive evaluations by a licensed dentist.

New adult patients (ages 18 and above) receive a full set of X-rays and a comprehensive dental examination at their first appointment. Other services include:

  • Fluoride and desensitizing treatments
  • Periodontal therapy (deep scaling) with numbing
  • Placement of silver or tooth-colored fillings
  • Scaling and polishing
  • Sealants
  • Smoothing and polishing of existing fillings
  • Whitening trays

We do not provide sedation or emergency treatment for extractions, toothaches, infections, missing teeth, root canals, or crowns. If a service cannot be performed in our clinic, the supervising dentist will recommend a referral. Please inform your regular dentist of any referrals.

Our clinic does not replace a private dental practice as your dental home. The teaching environment may not suit all patients. The 51福利社 Dental Clinic reserves the right to refer patients with needs beyond our capabilities to a more suitable dentist.

  • Please arrive with electronic forms completed.
  • Let us know if your health history, address, or phone number has changed.
  • A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under the age of 18 for at least 30 minutes at the beginning of the appointment to provide written consent for treatment. The parent or guardian must also be available by phone for the remainder of the appointment.
  • As a courtesy, we kindly ask all visitors to refrain from wearing fragrances when visiting the clinic.

Appointments usually last for 3 hours per visit. Completing a dental exam, X-rays, and cleaning can take between two and five appointments, depending on the level of care needed. If fillings are recommended, additional appointments will be necessary.

We appreciate your patience, as it allows dental hygiene students to gain valuable real-world experience. Our students work diligently and are supervised closely at every step of the care process.

Free parking is available outside the building. Please park in the lot marked with orange signs that say “Reserved Parking Patients Only – No Students Allowed.” Avoid the eight spots that say “Permit Required.”

Patient Policies

To ensure students can fulfill their clinical requirements, we ask for at least 48 business hours’ notice for any cancellations. Patients who miss or cancel their first appointment without providing this notice will not be rescheduled.

Additionally, patients who miss or late-cancel three appointments may be dismissed from the clinic.

Patients referred from another dentist must have all current X-rays emailed to聽ewuxrays@ewu.edu. Any outdated or undiagnostic X-rays will need to be retaken during the first visit with us.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule represents the federal government鈥檚 attempt to protect the privacy of personal health care information by establishing a nationwide foundation of required practices and procedures to safeguard the confidentiality of health care information in this age of technology.

This document explains the policies adopted by the 51福利社 Department of Dental Hygiene for protecting patients鈥� healthcare information. These departmental policies supplement the general 51福利社 HIPAA Policies.

The Department of Dental Hygiene at 51福利社 is a teaching institution dedicated to the education of future dental hygienists. 聽As a patient of our facility, you have certain rights, and also certain responsibilities. 聽Below we have outlined some of these rights and responsibilities.

Your rights as a patient are:

  • To be treated with respect, compassion, consideration, and dignity, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin, age, or ability to pay.
  • Patient disclosures and records are treated confidentially, and, except when required by law, patients are given the opportunity to approve or refuse their release.
  • To be informed of your dental hygiene treatment needs, progress of treatment, and any changes in treatment conditions.
  • To be informed of the length of appointments and fees before treatment is performed.
  • To be encouraged to seek alternative treatments, referrals, and second opinions when necessary.
  • To access your dental hygiene clinical treatment records.
  • To refuse treatment.
  • To treatment provided at the Standard of Care as outlined by the American Dental Hygiene Association Standards of Clinical Practice.

Your responsibilities as a patient are:

  • To provide complete personal information including聽your full name, address, telephone number, date of birth, Social Security number, insurance carrier or Provider One number, employer, emergency contact person, a photo of yourself, and other pertinent information for treatment and billing purposes.
  • To be honest about your health and medical history, such as, but not limited to, present conditions, past illnesses, hospital stays, medications, vitamins, herbal products, and any other information pertaining to your health, including perceived health risks.
  • To ask questions when you do not understand information or instructions.
  • To actively participate in your dental hygiene care.
  • To treat all department faculty, staff, students, other patients, and visitors with courtesy and respect, and abide by all department rules and safety regulations.
  • To pay your bill at the time of treatment.
  • To keep your scheduled appointment, be on time, and call your dental care provider if you cannot keep your appointment.
  • To have a private practice dentist or a referral is provided by our clinic because we cannot provide comprehensive care.
