Inspired by her own healthcare journey, Sarah White is using applied learning opportunities to prepare for a career improving patient outcomes.

Sarah White is completing her final quarter in healthcare administration. Her academic and career journey has been shaped by her personal experiences navigating the healthcare system.

Since childhood, Sarah has battled a rare condition called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Because it is an emerging and relatively uncommon disease, it took quite a bit of time for medical professionals to identify the cause of her symptoms. The condition can affect multiple body systems, including the brain, skin, and bones, making diagnosis and treatment especially challenging.

After finally receiving an accurate diagnosis, Sarah developed a profound appreciation for the healthcare professionals who worked tirelessly to help her find answers. This experience inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare administration, with the goal of improving healthcare systems and enhancing patient outcomes.

She actively engages in professional development and applied learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to real-world healthcare settings. Looking ahead, she hopes to earn her doctorate and teach healthcare administration.

鈥淸The program] really encourages you to get into professional organizations. As part of my internship, I serve as the student liaison on the board of directors for the Washington State Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. It’s real-world experience while learning.鈥
